Market your dispensary by the rules

Cannabis dispensary marketing

Film, photos, a website with your shop, and email, for licensed dispensaries. All of it planned around the ads you’re not allowed to run.

Google and Meta won’t run your ads

Google and Meta don’t take ads that sell cannabis, and New York limits where a dispensary can advertise and what an ad can show. So most of your marketing has to run on things you own. Here’s what’s closed, who closed it, and what’s still yours to use.

Closed to cannabis

  • Closed

    Google Ads

Google’s ad policy doesn’t allow ads for recreational cannabis.

    Google Ads policy

  • Closed

    Facebook and Instagram ads

Meta doesn’t allow ads that sell cannabis, on either app.

    Meta advertising standards

  • Closed

    Billboards

New York doesn’t allow billboards for cannabis at all.

  • Closed

    Buses and stations

No cannabis ads on public transit or on public property.

Open to you

  • Open

    Your website and shop

Your menu, online orders and an age check, on a site you own.

    Web design
  • Open

    Your email list

Customers who signed up to hear from you, at the counter or online.

    Email marketing

    Film and photos

Your store and your staff on camera, with nobody shown using the product.

    Search

Showing up when people search isn’t an ad, so the ad bans don’t cover it.

Your grand opening, on film

We filmed the Happy Days Dispensary grand opening and cut a promo that runs as the header of their website. It leads with the room and the people in it, not the product, which keeps it usable on platforms that won’t take cannabis ads.

  • Shot on the day

Our crew in the store on opening day.

  • Planned around the rules

Nobody using the product on camera, and anyone in an ad at least 25.

  • Cut for your channels

The header of your site, your emails and your own social posts.

  • A budtender handing a bag across the counter
  • A customer browsing the menu on an in-store screen
  • Two guests talking in the store’s painted van
  • Staff and guests in front of the Happy Days banner on opening day

A website with your shop in it

We designed and built the Happy Days website around their online shop, so customers browse the menu and order on the dispensary’s own site. Nobody gets in without saying they’re 21.

  • An age check at the door

Visitors confirm they’re 21 or older before the site opens.

  • The shop, built in

The menu and online orders live on your site, not someone else’s.

  • Looked after once it’s live

Updates, backups and fixes from the team that built it.

An email list you own

Email goes straight to customers who asked for it, with no ad platform in the way. We grow the list on your site, at the counter and at your events, design every send, and put New York’s required warnings at the foot.

  • A reason to sign up

Something worth giving an address for, offered online and in store.

  • On a schedule

A weekly or monthly email, planned ahead instead of the morning of.

  • The warnings in place

The state’s required wording at the foot of every send.

Can you run Google or Facebook ads for a dispensary?

Not ads that sell cannabis. Google and Meta both prohibit them, and New York adds its own limits on where a dispensary can advertise. We put the work into the channels that are open to you instead: your website and shop, your email list, and film and photos of your store.

Do you follow New York’s cannabis advertising rules?

Yes. We plan and make the work around the state’s rules: who can see an ad, what it can show, and the warnings it has to carry. We flag anything that needs a closer look, and the final compliance sign-off stays with you and your counsel.

Have you worked with dispensaries before?

Yes. For Happy Days Dispensary we filmed the grand opening, designed and built the website around their online shop, and worked on their email marketing and photography.

Can you film inside a dispensary?

Yes. We filmed the Happy Days grand opening in the store. We plan the shoot around the room, the staff and the customers rather than the product, nobody is shown using it, and anyone in an ad is at least 25, as New York requires.

What does cannabis marketing cost?

Most small businesses invest $1,500–$5,000 per month for ongoing work. Individual projects are quoted per engagement, and every engagement starts with a free consultation.
